The 2026/27 tax year is fast approaching. As a Quartz customer, you can rest assured that your dedicated account manager will ensure that the switch from one tax year to the next runs smoothly.
To help you prepare, here are the key tax year changes you need to know about as an employer from April 2026.
National Insurance Thresholds
The employer National Insurance rate (15%) and the Secondary Threshold (£5,000 per year) will remain unchanged. Your employee’s National Insurance rate will also stay at 8%.
Personal Tax Allowance Frozen
The personal tax allowance threshold for 2026/27 has been frozen at the limit of £12,570.

Increase to National Minimum Wage
National Minimum Wage will increase from £12.21 to £12.71.
As an employer, you have a legal obligation to be compliant with this change. If you’re a Quartz customer, please do contact us if you believe you need to adjust any of your employee’s salaries, and we’ll be happy to assist you.
Changes to Statutory Sick Pay (SSP)
From April 2026, Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) will be paid from the first day of illness, instead of the fourth day.
The Lower Earnings Limit (LEL) will also be removed, so minimum earnings requirements for statutory payments will no longer apply.
This means all employees, even those earning under £125 gross per week, will be entitled to Statutory Sick Pay (SSP).
The weekly rate of statutory Sick Pay (SSP) will be £123.25 or 80% of the employee’s average weekly earnings, whichever is lower.
